The Big 12 announced its preseason all-conference football team on Wednesday, and it featured a great deal of local flavor.

Kansas State and KU are both well-represented this year.

The Wildcats placed five players on the preseason All-Big 12 team with Florida State transfer running back Treshaun Ward being named preseason Newcomer of the Year. The Jayhawks produced four all-conference players with quarterback Jalon Daniels earning the prestigious honor of Offensive Player of the Year.

Much will be expected from both teams this year if the preseason media poll is any indication.

In past years, it has been hard for KU to produce multiple players on the preseason team. But experts are beginning to take notice after the Jayhawks reached their first bowl game under coach Lance Leipold.

Daniels led the way for the Jayhawks as the league’s first-team quarterback. He was joined on the team by running back Devin Neal, offensive lineman Mike Novitsky and defensive back Cobee Bryant.

Offensive lineman Cooper Beebe led the way for the Wildcats. He was joined by tight end Ben Sinnott (who made the team as a fullback), kick returner Phillip Brooks and defensive back Kobe Savage. Ward will be expected to make an immediate impact at running back.

The Big 12 will reveal the media’s preseason football poll Thursday.
