The local Heartland Racewalkers Club brought home more medals to add to their substantial collection at the USATF National Masters Indoor Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.

The USATF National Masters Indoor Championships were contested over the weekend, March 10-12.

Lori Groom of Leawood took gold in her first national masters indoor event in the 60-64 age division in the women’s 1,500-meter walk. She followed up with another gold in the 3000-meter walk.

David Eisenberg of Leawood came away with the gold in the 70-74 age division in the men’s 1,500-meter walk. It was his first national masters indoor competition as well, and he beat some veteran former champions in the event.

Eisenberg also garnered a silver medal in the 3,000-meter walk. David is a relative newcomer to racewalking and will be competing in the World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland next week.

Alan Poisner of Overland Park not only took gold in the men’s 1,500-meter walk in the 85-89 division, but his time of 10 minutes, 48 seconds was an all-time record in the division. He took another gold in the 3,000-meter walk and beat seven of the other 30 walkers, all of whom were younger.

He is now entering his 38th year as a competitive racewalker.

The Heartland Racewalkers club meets weekly in Overland Park and will be fielding walkers in a number of outdoor racing events nationally and internationally in the coming year. Information can be found at www.heartlandracewalkers.com
