Coming to KC for the Big 12? Here’s where you can show your team pride before the games

The men’s Big 12 Tournament tips off Wednesday, March 9 and the women’s tournament starts on Thursday, March 10. Fans from all over the Midwest and southern regions will reconvene in the heart of downtown Kansas City.

The T-Mobile Center hosts the men, while Municipal Auditorium is the women’s site. No matter what arena you’re at, you’ll be treated to nonstop action as teams fight for their respective Big 12 championships.

For as much as what’s going on inside, there’s plenty to do nearby. Every time the Big 12 Tournament comes to town, there are activities set up outside each arena that fans of all ages can enjoy.

Are you a Cyclones, Jayhawks, Longhorns or a Wildcats fan coming to town and looking for a fun experience? Here’s what you need to know.

WATCH PARTIES

If you didn’t buy tickets to go watch the games indoors, there are plenty of watch parties in the surrounding area, most notably in the KC Live! Block at Power and Light. After 9 p.m., it’s only for ages 21 and up.

Spirit rallies for your favorite team, live entertainment and contests will happen throughout the tournament in the KC Live! Block.

Surrounding bars in the Power and Light District and all over the city will also show the games, so if the bar atmosphere is more your style, you’re covered.

BIG 12 GAME DAY

Outside the T-Mobile Center and Municipal Auditorium are games, challenges, giveaways and more as fans wait for their team to play.

The fun on Grand Boulevard for the men’s tournament happens at these times:

  • 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9

  • 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10

  • 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 11

  • 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 12

They’re also offering the opportunity for fans to participate in Phillips 66’s “The Posterizer,” where you can receive a poster of one of your slam dunks. Due to the inclement weather, this will take place inside the T-Mobile Center near section 110.

Now that it’s indoors, the times to get your poster are as follows.

  • 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9
  • 10 a.m.- 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10
  • 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 11
  • 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12

Over at Barney Allis Plaza, the pregame festivities for the women’s tournament run at these times:

  • 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10

  • 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 11

  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12

  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 13

Even if your team is eliminated, take some time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big 12 Tournament.
