Kansas City Star sports columnist Vahe Gregorian will be inducted into the United States Basketball Writers’ Hall of Fame this April at the men’s Final Four in New Orleans.

Gregorian, who joined The Star in 2013, was the Associated Press Sports Editors’ columnist of the year in 2017 for the large-paper circulation category.

For The Star and in his previous job covering the University of Missouri for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Gregorian has covered 21 men’s Final Fours and dozens of intense rivalry games between the Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks during his 35-plus year career as a sportswriter.

In its announcement, the USBWA says Gregorian “is considered the ultimate teammate among his colleagues and a role model among his peers.”

“What a great and fitting honor for a fantastic professional, and person,” said Jeff Rosen, The Star’s sports editor. “We’re very proud of Vahe and the impact he’s had in Kansas City and beyond.”

In the USBWA hall, Gregorian will join The Star’s Blair Kerkhoff, who was inducted in 2016. Four others will be inducted with Gregorian this year: Charles Hallman of The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, Joe Juliano of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Tom Kensler of The Denver Post and Mike Waters of The (Syracuse) Post-Standard.
