Former Sporting Kansas City homegrown player Kevin Ellis recorded a hat trick Wednesday to pace the KC Comets’ 10-4 indoor-soccer victory over the Milwaukee Wave at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.

The Comets (4-0) remain undefeated to start the Major Arena Soccer League season. Rian Marques scored a pair of goals and had an assist, Lucas Sousa added two goals and player/coach Leo Gibson recorded three assists.

The Brazilian Marques, playing in his first game for the Comets after approval of his visa, scored both of his goals after the Wave had taken a 2-0 lead.

“I think we just came out a little too aggressive, a little too amped up,” Ellis said. “It’s hard not to when you have a crowd like this.

“We just didn’t do the little things right. We were overrunning things, passes weren’t crisp. It’s not every time you get to say this, but it was good to give up a couple goals and finally settle down.”

The Comets and Wave (0-2-1) are scheduled to meet again Friday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee. Game time is 3:05 p.m.

“When we execute the game plan, things fall our way,” Ellis said. “In the first part of the game, I don’t think we followed it (the game plan), and we suffered for that.

“We settled down and started executing the way we should, and the result speaks for itself.”
