Kansas City Roos men, women lose Summit League basketball openers to South Dakota State

The Kansas City Roos were blown out in their Summit League men’s basketball opener Monday night, losing 89-57 to South Dakota State in Brookings.

The Roos (5-6) shot 33% from the field. No starter scored in double figures. Marvin Nesbitt Jr. scored seven points on 3 of 12 shooting and Jacob Johnson also had seven points. Timothy Barnes led Kansas City with 11 points in 18 minutes off the bench.

South Dakota State (10-4) broke a two-game losing streak, shooting 57%.

The Roos women, after a 10-1 start in nonconference play, also lost their Summit opener to the Jackrabbits on Monday night, 85-78 in Kansas City.

Naomie Alnatas led KC with 20 points and six assists, shooing 8 of 19 from the field. Paige Bradford added 17 points and eight rebounds and Brooklyn McDavid had 16 points and eight rebounds.

Both Roos teams play South Dakota on Wednesday: the women at at 2 p.m. in Swinney Center and the men at 7 p.m. in Vermillion, South Dakota.
