The Iowa Heartlanders beat the Kansas City Mavericks 7-4 in both teams’ ECHL season opener Friday night in Coralville, Iowa.

But the Mavericks get a rematch Saturday night in their own home opener. Game time is 7 p.m. Saturday as KC and Iowa complete the season-opening home-and-home series at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.

The Mavericks (0-1), who trailed 5-2 after two periods Friday, got goals from Ryan Olsen, Greg Moro, Lane Sheidl and Loren Ulett.

The Mavs are entering their 13th season as a franchise. They finished .500 last year and hope to get back to the Kelly Cup playoffs this season.
