Tour of Lawrence cycling race is this Friday through Sunday

More than 750 professional and amateur cyclists are expected to take part in the Tour of Lawrence this Friday through Sunday.

The first race begins Friday at 7 p.m. with the cycling sprints on Vermont Street between Seventh Ninth Streets.

The competition on Saturday is from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and it is a criterium race that goes through the Haskell Indian Nations University campus and the Breezedale Historic District of Lawrence.

A criterium race is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is a start/finish line at Ninth Street and Massachusetts Streets, heads south to 10th Street, travels to Vermont to Seventh Street, then back to Massachusetts where racers will go back to 10th Street.

The Tour of Lawrence is a USA Cycling-sanctioned event, organizers say.
