Blue Springs South, Oak Grove advance to Missouri state high school softball finals
Two Kansas City-area teams will play for Missouri state high school softball championships on Saturday in Springfield after winning their respective Friday semifinals.
In Class 4 action at the Killian Softball Complex, Blue Springs South (22-6) advanced to the championship final with a 6-5 win over Marquette (23-4). The Jaguars will play Troy Buchanan (26-4-1), a 6-0 winner over Ray-Pec (24-8) on Friday, at noon on Saturday.
Ray-Pec did win the third-place game, topping Marquette 6-5 later Friday afternoon. Alexandria Blackmon went 3 for 3, scored two runs and batted in a run for Ray-Pec.
In the Class 3 tournament, Oak Grove (24-3) beat Hillsboro (21-9) 8-5 on Friday to advance to the title game at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at the Killian fields.
The Panthers will play Mexico (26-4), a 3-0 winner on Friday over Sullivan (27-4), for the Class 3 championship.
