The Final Five are headliners for Tour of Gymnastics Champions that will stop in KC
The Tour of Gymnastics Champions will be in Kansas City, but will The Final Five be at the Sprint Center?
That remains to be seen.
The Tour of Gymnastics Champions will stop at the Sprint Center on Oct. 7. Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez, who won a total of nine medals at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and were nicknamed The Final Five, will be the headliners.
Biles won three individual gold medals (vault, floor exercise, individual all-around) and was part of The Final Five that won the team all-around gold medal. She also won bronze in the balance beam. Raisman won silver in floor exercise and individual all-around, while Kocian took silver in uneven bars and Hernandez won silver in balance beam.
Other U.S. Olympians who are taking part in the Tour of Gymnastics Champions are men’s gymnasts Chris Brooks, Jake Dalton, Danell Leyva, Sam Mikulak and Alex Naddour; rhythmic gymnasts Kiana Eide, Monica Rokhman, Jennifer Rokhman, Kristen Shaldybin and Laura Zeng; and trampoline gymnasts Logan Dooley and Nicole Ahsinger.
Shawn Johnson, the 2008 Olympic balance beam champion; Nastia Liukin, the 2008 Olympic all-around champion; and Jordyn Wieber, a 2012 Olympic team champion are also part of the tour.
Here is the all-important disclaimer: the tour will stop in 36 cities and the participants at each stop are subject to change.
“This year’s Kellogg’s Tour is a welcome home party and celebration for the USA’s success in Rio,” Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics, said in a news release. “Our athletes won the hearts of fans around the globe last month, and this is a chance for America to see them up close and personal. This year’s Kellogg’s Tour includes the biggest names in the sport, including three Olympic all-around champions and medalists from three Olympic Teams.”
