In Kansas City, sports are a point of pride — representing grit, teamwork and ambition. WIN for KC, a nonprofit project from the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission, taps into that spirit with purpose, creating a space where young women athletes are supported not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. In today’s world, where empowerment and access are more important than ever, WIN for KC’s WIN Wellness initiative is more than a program — it’s a movement redefining what it means to be strong.

Through WIN Wellness, WIN for KC shines a vital spotlight on the mental health needs of women and girls in our community. This initiative addresses head-on the unspoken pressures that young athletes often face: to be physically tough and emotionally silent. WIN Wellness dares to challenge that culture, delivering education, programming and resources that boldly say: Your mental well-being matters.

This fall, as part of a collaboration with WIN for KC, Bank of America will support WIN for KC’s mission by offering Better Money Habits sessions to Thrive KC, a WIN for KC program for high school girls focused on leadership, career training and mentorship. While financial literacy is just one piece of the partnership, it plays a crucial role. Teaching young women how to manage their finances is not just about dollars and cents — it’s about confidence, independence and unlocking future opportunities. When paired with mental wellness support, these tools form a solid foundation for lifelong empowerment.

WIN for KC’s work comes at a critical time. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the percentage of teenage girls experiencing persistent sadness or hopelessness is at an all-time high. For young athletes balancing school, body image and competition, the emotional toll can be especially heavy. WIN Wellness takes on these challenges directly, fostering a culture where emotional resilience is just as celebrated as physical strength. It reminds girls that their worth is not defined by statistics — but by their humanity.

With the support of partners like Bank of America, WIN for KC is not only changing the game — it’s rewriting it. Together, we’re helping shift the narrative from “tough it out” to “let’s talk it out.” The result? A generation of young women who are strong, self-aware and supported — both on and off the field.
