MAGA influencer’s ‘Marxist’ Pope Leo insult is worthy of kindergarten | Opinion
Isn’t it wonderful that we’re reduced to kindergarten taunts? By second grade, I doubt kids continue believing that “Poopoo Face” is a stinging rebuke. I don’t really remember — maybe it’s third or fourth grade. By then, the tongue needs to sharpen a little. Maybe, “Your mother wears combat boots!” as an insult instead?
But not for Laura Loomer, and those she influences, including the influencer in chief.
For MAGA, name-calling is the bottom line, the very thing, an end unto itself. Loomer, a 31-year-old twice-failed Florida Republican congressional candidate and very online conspiracy theorist holds great sway over President Donald Trump. Last month, she reportedly harangued Trump into firing a big chunk of the National Security Council on the spot for suspected disloyalty.
Fast on the draw, Loomer’s verbal gun was out of its holster before white smoke can dissipate into a blue Roman sky. She had the name to call Pope Leo IV at hand, declaring Leo was “Just another Marxist puppet in the Vatican.”
Really?
In 1939, the communist parties in the United States, United Kingdom and France withheld condemnation of the invasion of Poland by the Soviet Union and Germany. National communist parties in the West were indeed puppets, whose words and actions were dictated by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, aka Joseph Stalin.
Marxist? Communist? Not the same thing, but no time or space to get bogged down in that now, a subject for another day.
So, if Pope Leo is a puppet, there must be a puppeteer. Who’s that?
The only possible Marxists I’m aware of are President Xi Jinping of China and Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un of North Korea. I don’t think anyone really claims Russia’s Vladimir Putin is a Marxist — just a dictator, really.
Pope Leo dancing to the tune of Xi? Pretty hard to reason that out.
So, what’s the reasoning? The best I can come up with is Poopoo Face. Calling someone, anyone, a Marxist, a communist, a socialist is just the worst thing Loomer can think of to call them.
Like “Poopoo Face.”
