Call it Project 2025 or Agenda 47: It’s about Trump’s power, not Americans’ good | Opinion
Project 2025 is the Donald Trump and Republican Party blueprint for an America where citizens are ruled, not governed. Where women’s rights are considered wrongs. Where our children are indoctrinated, not educated, and where our military can be turned against our own citizens. Despite his claims of knowing nothing about it, Trump’s own Agenda 47 platform closely echoes its plans.
It would be an America where decency, dignity and decorum would be replaced by obscenity, vulgarity and crudeness. Humor would be replaced by insult, compassion by mockery, honor by disgrace and respect by contempt.
In Trump’s America, morality would not apply to the ruling elite. Religion would be distorted to support the policies of the government and honesty would be situational, based on leaders’ whims. Dissent would be met with consequence, intimidation and violence. Freedom of speech, along with our other freedoms, would no longer be free, but at the mercy of a ruling class system we fought to free ourselves from in 1776.
Trump’s America would favor an economy that places unimaginable and unconscionable wealth in the hands of an elite few at the expense of American workers and their families. Unions would be considered enemies of the state. Workers’ rights would no longer exist and the destruction of the middle class would be inevitable.
His America would denigrate the reputation and service of revered American heroes and replace them with the images of foreign dictators, oligarchs and strongmen who are more to his liking. Under his rule, America’s allies would be treated as enemies and our enemies would be presented as allies.
Under Trump and Project 2025, our older adults and future generations would be deprived of Social Security along with the decent, available and affordable health care provided by Medicare. Quality medicine and a dignified retirement would be available only to the wealthy and entitled.
Under Trump, Project 2025 and his cadre of corporate climate deniers, our planet would deteriorate. Our climate would continue to decline. More areas of the world would become uninhabitable. Storms would intensify. Our water resources would become at risk. Our air would be subject to unacceptable levels of pollution and big business profits would prevail over any attempt to address these threats to our planet and our shared humanity.
In Trump’s world — like he did in 2017 — he would surround himself with staffers who would not provide him with diverse advice and counsel, but only those who would grant him immediate agreement and consent. Most of the “best people” he hired in 2017 were either fired or left in disgust when they realized they were only there to nod in agreement with a president they realized would never seek or accept ideas, suggestions or facts divergent from his own predetermined reality, opinions or decisions.
This is just a small sample of the damages a Project 2025- or Agenda 47-based Trump administration would inflict on America and the world. The only way to defend our Constitution, our freedom, our decency and our position as leader of the free world in this election is to make sure that Project 2025 is thrown into the trash bin of history and that Donald Trump never again sets foot in the White House — the people’s house.
