Kansas Sen. Julia Lynn wants to get off the ballot, but secretary of state says no
Kansas decided Wednesday that state Sen. Julia Lynn of Johnson County has to stay on the November ballot, despite her decision to drop out of her reelection race. At least for now.
Lynn said she wanted to end her campaign because of illness in the family. But the secretary of state’s office declined to accept her request to leave the ballot because the request was signed by a nurse, not a doctor as state law requires.
That surprising decision was a main topic Wednesday on “4Star Politics,” the program co-hosted by John Holt of FOX4 News and Dave Helling of The Kansas City Star Editorial Board. They were joined by Brad Cooper, editor and reporter for the Sunflower State Journal.
Cooper also discussed the state’s U.S. Senate race, and the 3rd Congressional District contest between Amanda Adkins and Rep. Sharice Davids.
In Missouri, the two gubernatorial candidates — Gov. Mike Parson and Nicole Galloway — are arguing over COVID-19. St. Louis Public Radio reporter Jason Rosenbaum provides perspective from the other side of Missouri on that contest and other news from eastern St. Louis.
“4Star Politics” is a weekly production by The Kansas City Star and FOX4 in Kansas City. It is posted on kansascity.com and fox4kc.com every Wednesday.
