Will the Democrats’ virtual convention energize voters? A Missouri delegate weighs in

When is a political convention not really a convention?

When COVID-19 forces most of the action online. On this week’s “4Star Politics,” John Holt of FOX4 News and The Star Editorial Board’s Dave Helling talked with Manny Arbaca, a Democratic delegate from Missouri, about the changes in the party’s party.

Arbaca has attended in-person conventions in the past. This year’s virtual convention has introduced more Americans to the party, he said, but it hasn’t yet produced the kind of energy that falling balloons and funny hats can provide.

The Democrats’ convention, officially being held in Milwaukee, ends Thursday, when former Vice President Joe Biden officially accepts the party’s nomination.

Republicans will hold a similar virtual convention next week, headquartered largely in Washington, D.C., and Charlotte. “4Star Politics “will talk with a GOP delegate next week.

This week’s program also includes a discussion with Kansas political consultant Stephanie Sharp about the other candidates on the November ballot preparing for November.
