Unified Government Mayor David Alvey says a return to COVID-19 lockdown isn’t possible

David Alvey, mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, told “4Star Politics” Wednesday that it won’t be possible to return to a total lockdown in the face of multiplying COVID-19 cases in the region.

But taking simple steps, including wearing a mask and social distancing, can make it easier to return to other activities this summer, Alvey said.

Wyandotte County has seen by far the most illnesses and deaths per capita from COVID in the greater Kansas City area. Alvey recently issued a mandatory mask order for his community.

He said different rules for different counties make it difficult to tamp down the spread of coronavirus everywhere. But, he said, group activities can’t return until the area gets a better handle on the rising number of infections.
