Readers react to Kris Kobach, angry Republicans and Gov. Sam Brownback
Kobach’s folly
I read with great interest the April 12 editorial, “Kobach embarrasses Kansans … again and again and again,” on Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Thank you for publishing that.
Now, I would love to see an in-depth examination of the taxpayer money he has wasted on his foolish vendettas and defense of laws and lawsuits. Please consider doing some investigative work and publishing it, so the people of Kansas can see how we are being duped and see the reckless expenditures we have paid for.
Maybe some black and white dollar figures would wake up people. Documentation of his time spent out of the state pursuing those agendas would be helpful as well.
I believe him to be a very dangerous man. My biggest fear is seeing him run for governor. What a nightmare.
Thank you for your attention in this critical matter.

GOP reality
When the clowns and bigots running for the GOP presidential nomination say “the people are angry,” what they really mean is that a whole lot of Republicans are angry. Democrats, not so much.
In fact, 86 percent of Democrats are happy with President Barack Obama, according to Gallup’s most recent approval ratings.
I’m one of them. I’m pleased we have few boots on the ground in the Middle East, pleased that we have universal health care, pleased with the Iranian nuclear treaty and pleased that his administration rescued our economy from the failures of the Bush administration and obstructionist, do-nothing Republican legislators.
When the Republican uber-conservatives say our government is our enemy, that’s not true. When Republicans say our country is in disastrous shape, that’s not true. And don’t believe our president is about to knock on your door and take your guns away from you.
Don’t believe that 11 million illegal immigrants are rapists and murderers or that it’s wise to incarcerate Muslims, who on the whole are as good as any other group of Americans.
I look forward to the general election, where a whole lot of Americans can show they’re not buying into a Rush Limbaugh-inspired virtual reality.

Brownback’s plan
I can’t help wondering how much of the funding for the new juvenile-justice system Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback plans to finance at a later time or perhaps cut altogether (4-12, A1, “Juvenile justice overhaul is signed”).

Faith in future
If our children today can see no future, why can’t we fix that? Hearing talk from the presidential candidates gives us no faith in our future.
Haven’t we seen enough of those lawyer-backed, money-hungry, greedy, dishonest politicians?
This poisonous Ivy League lawyer mentality has become an embarrassment.
The last 50 years have been too much to bear. We all need to contribute to the good of mankind and God’s green Earth.
We need to be able to have jobs, become more concerned about our children and the future of our world.
If we cannot get a hold on our world, maybe we need to turn it over to our children.
We can no longer trust people with an elitist mentality. I know anything is better than what we have now.
When we must arm our schoolteachers with guns to protect our children, we’re admitting that we are losing our world to the devil.

CASA volunteers
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It’s important for every member of the Kansas City community to consider what each of us can do to help our most vulnerable children.
This year, more than 500 heroes will become volunteers with Jackson County Court Appointed Special Advocates and CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte counties.
These lay volunteers will represent the best interests of more than 1,700 abused and neglected children on both sides of the state line, helping to find them safe, permanent homes and working to ensure they get the medical, therapeutic and educational services they desperately need.
The CASA agencies in this area are able to help only one-third of the abused and neglected children in our community. Go to www.casakc.org to learn how you can volunteer, too.
During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, you can commit to saving the life of a child.
