Security at KCI
Perhaps Kansas City has been shown the answer for the future design of the Kansas City International Airport terminal.
The recent events in Brussels have taught us that it is unwise for large groups of people to congregate in places where they can be reached by terrorist attackers.
The three-terminal configuration we have in Kansas City would make an attack like that of last week more difficult.
Perhaps it would be wise to have our security agencies review all plans to rehabilitate or rebuild before a final decision is made.

Battle over schools
Many leaders in Kansas school districts unknowingly bolster the views of extreme conservatives in the Legislature. Educators often think that the local enemy of public education is privatizing public schools.
Many recent bills from Topeka, including those that are anti-Common Core, anti-teacher association and anti-social justice education, attack public schools. Indeed, this is deeply destructive to schools and student learning.
As a Kansas teacher, however, I know that well-intentioned leadership within public schools does not undermine all extremist views. Many leaders thank their teachers but do not publicly back increased compensation for teachers or the types of benefits that professionals openly pursue.
These leadership voices often promote the idea that good intentions make job protection irrelevant. And these same voices focus rhetoric only on the needs of the kids and ignore the need to push a robust career path for their teachers, which inevitably attracts great educators.
These choices that ignore the need to promote good teaching careers alienate quality potential and current teachers and significantly worsen students’ experience.
Hopefully, leaders will begin to speak up directly for teachers and turn the tide of anti-education politics.

Un-Christian acts
Christians are to put their faith and trust in God. Who are these people who call themselves Christians but are filled with so much fear and/or anger that they follow a man who does not display the least bit of respect for our Lord Jesus?
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump may say he is Christian, but he does not behave as Jesus taught, and sadly neither do his followers. As a Christian, I am deeply sorry and embarrassed by those who cheer every hateful and hurtful thing Trump says and does.
As I witness their lack of sense and sensibility, I am reminded of those who cheered for Jesus to be crucified and centuries later for the Jews to be baked in ovens.

Next U.S. president
Go to the headquarters building on any military base and you will find the military chain of command laid out by names or in picture form.
At the bottom will be unit commander, and then moving up you will find base commander, joint chief of staffs, the secretary of defense and at the very top the president. He or she is indeed the commander of all the U.S. military.
Now consider our two main candidates for this post, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. Are you sure you want to take this risk?

Qualified or not?
With any other job in the world, the applicants’ resumes would be analyzed. Three of the five candidates have no experience that would help them as our next president. They are junior senators, a brash businessman and an avid democratic socialist.
Please, folks, use the brains God gave you.

Next CEO of U.S.
Everything about the presidential election so far has been about politics and personal degradation. Maybe we should be thinking in terms of big business instead.
The federal government, the biggest business in the United States, is more than $19 trillion in debt. The U.S. government has a rapidly decaying infrastructure and a weakened military — to mention two glaring issues.
If you had to choose a new chief executive for this failing business from the presidential candidates still in the race, whom would you pick?
