Letter of the Week: Another option for women considering abortions

Another option

Somewhere out there, a woman is considering abortion for what she believes are good reasons.

She is young and has well-thought-out plans for advanced education, and the demands of unplanned and unwanted parenthood seem overwhelming.

Likely, she will join many others in thinking there are only two choices — parenthood and abortion.

Please know there is another choice for her — adoption.

Yes, she has to bear 12 months of not looking or feeling like she wants, plus having to fake a smile at the occasional snide remark. But she can hold her head high knowing that the child inside her will some day get to make his or her own plans, own life.

Really, what is 12 months over the span of a lifetime?

And if she is really lucky, some day, when she is 40 or 50 years old, she might get a phone call or an email from a young man or woman saying, “I’d like to meet you.”

Remember, love can’t be measured in a cup. There is plenty to go around.

June B. Padgett and her husband, Earl C. “Cal” Padgett, have lived in the same Brookside home for 59 years. She is a retired draftsman and technical illustrator. She and her husband have two adult children and six grandchildren. She counts among her favorite pastimes learning new things and doing things she has never done before.
