Readers react to climate change, exclusion politics and nursing homes

Climate change

The world population in 1960 was about 3 billion people.

By 2015 it had climbed to more than 7 billion people.

They all need to eat, which takes food, and that takes production. They need houses, and that means cutting down trees and using concrete for construction.

They need jobs that have byproducts.

They need vehicles and fuel, so that all leads to climate change, if there is climate change, which I doubt.

To stop climate change, just reduce the world population.

Problem solved.

Exclusion politics

We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The word “all,” to some Republicans, in office and running for office, means except Latinos, blacks, women, lesbians, gays, Jews, immigrants and anyone who is not white and Christian.

These people think they own the words patriot and Christian.

Some of them think they are perfect and all others should be and do exactly like them. Some of the meanest talk and actions come from people I have known in my lifetime who claim to be good Christians.

People of all colors, religions and races have made this country great. The politics, money and media have created attitudes and hatreds among people in this country and will be its downfall if continued.

Politics are the worst ever, and church parking lots are full on Sunday.

So we are not learning the right lessons from the good book, and we are definitely not electing leaders who should make people start using common courtesy to get rid of the combative attitude.

Nursing homes

I can certainly understand why Alzheimer’s disease homes are growing in popularity around the Kansas City region.

I work in a memory care home in Hutchinson, Kan.

It is so different from working in a skilled facility. With just 10 or fewer residents, each person gets more attention from the caregivers.

I strongly suggest that families consider a small facility for their loved ones.

Because there is extra time when caring for the residents, there is also time for many activities they like.

It doesn’t have to be a group activity. Sometimes all elderly people want is to be heard.

There are many small facilities in the region, but they care only for patients with Alzheimer’s disease. I would like to see more of these homes for all the elderly and not just Alzheimer’s patients.

These facilities are truly more like a home environment than a hospital or a traditional nursing home.

I believe that everyone deserves to have more attention in what is going to be her or his home.

Reclaiming U.S.

With political elections starting, I think about America. I believe reforming our government is as awesome as mountains to forge.

Citizens trying to decipher conflicting information offered by some politicians are left with muddled rhetoric.

Lost behind twisted talk and speeches presented to influence, listeners are left confused.

Many public servants work selflessly for our country. Unfortunately, it comes to which party takes control in elections. It takes making deals to get legislation passed.

What matters is how positive one appears to voters and who endorses campaigns.

Our government has become mundane and disappointing, leaving many citizens apathetic and disgusted.

The self-serving must not lead the innocent. The innocent must not remain reticent.

Thomas Jefferson in 1793 stated, “I consider the people who constitute a society or nation as the source of all authority in that nation.”

What future does America hold for her citizens?

Public servants must emulate our Founding Fathers.

Our government owes citizens a system with true virtues — honesty, integrity, honor, fairness, our freedoms and higher principles.

All of our rights are embodied in the Constitution, and our country is founded upon them.

Awaken, America. Know that America belongs to you.
