Letter of the Week: ‘Twilight Zone’ reality

Bruce Jenner, a 65-year-old who won the gold medal in the decathlon in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, is now Caitlyn, and Rachel Dolezal, the former president of the Spokane, Wash., NAACP, is a white woman who says she’s really black.

That’s all just in the past few weeks. Both stories have left me thinking we’re all bit players in a “Twilight Zone” episode where whatever one feels is reality.

I’m 58 years old. I wake up many mornings feeling like a 66-year-old man. Does that make me 66? If so, I can’t wait to tell the Social Security Administration the good news.

People, stoners are more grounded than this.

Both Caitlyn Jenner and Rachel Dolezal — while deserving of compassion — shouldn’t be celebrated or defended for what in 99.9 percent of human existence would be seen for what it is — delusional thinking and behavior.

Jim Eschrich has lived in Lenexa since 1990. He is originally from Buffalo, N.Y. He has two adult children and is a focus-group moderator for businesses and political campaigns. He also was a member of the national bobsled team in the 1980s.
