The Chiefs name is no more offensive than the Fighting Sioux was
No offense
There is nothing derogatory in the team name Chiefs, just as there was nothing derogatory in the team name Fighting Sioux at the University of North Dakota or the Vikings (who did not wear horned helmets, by the way). Trying to appease anyone and everyone who is prone to taking offense is both absurd and impossible.

Political ploy?
Much is being said about the federal Operation LeGend anti-crime initiative in Kansas City. Cities have long needed federal support to fight crime. The notion in and of itself is honorable. However, we need to carefully study the in-depth intent of this action by the Trump administration. Crime in our cities did not start yesterday.
We are in the middle of the political campaign season. So in the analysis, a question that must be asked is why we are getting this intrusive and overwhelming federal support to fight crime now. Our priorities should always be the protection of our cities and the safety of our people above all else.
The bottom line is that in November, we must vote for the preservation of the republic. This is the greatest country in the world. There is no quarter for knee-jerk programming that disrupts the crime-fighting efforts of local governments.
Supporting local government is fundamental. That support should not be used under any guise to get votes. On Election Day, Americans will cast their ballots not for a candidate but for the country.
