Letters: KC readers discuss caring for others with Medicaid and erasing history
Help with health
I have been a health care provider in Missouri for 25 years, including working at a free clinic for more than 15 years. It was an honor. It was also discouraging to see so many people struggle with health care choices.
I have seen women who would not come in for evaluation even though they had a breast lump (growing for months) because they had no insurance. Some would halve their blood pressure or diabetes medicines because of devastating financial choices.
Comments about Amendment 2 have compared expanding Medicaid to socialism. How about comparing it to “Do unto others”? To me, that is a much better choice.
Please vote yes on Amendment 2.

Man of his time
Some people say we should remove the statues of Andrew Jackson from Jackson County Courthouses because he was a racist. The statues should stay. Jackson was not a racist according to the era he lived in. By today’s standards, yes, but not at the time he was alive.
Like it or not, slavery was legal until Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Do not attempt to erase history.
