Letters: KC readers discuss Roy Blunt’s help for public service and Roger Stone’s call
Blunt can help
As we wrestle with deep and divisive issues, one point of unification will touch our lives for the better — the CORPS Act.
Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan is right — we should expand national service. (July 13, 7A, “National service can help with COVID-19 education disaster”) That’s why I call on Sen. Roy Blunt to include the CORPS Act in the next coronavirus relief bill.
The senator is a champion of national service. His support of this bipartisan bill holds the key to its success and would inspire others in Washington to support this issue.
This bill is the win Missouri communities need. It would mean at least $14 million in additional funding to Missouri for national service in 2021, allowing for 475 additional AmeriCorps members to serve across the state to support coronavirus relief efforts — doing contact tracing, virtual learning, food delivery and more.
With tens of millions of Americans out of work, and our communities in desperate need of local support, this bill provides employment to those who have had their lives disrupted by COVID-19.
As a longtime business owner in the Kansas City area, I urge Sen. Blunt to continue to build on his legacy and support the CORPS Act.

Charitable cause
Dear Roger Stone: Now that you’ve been saved by God and the president, perhaps you’ll follow the example of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:8: “Look, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone, I repay them four times as much.”
