Letters: KC readers discuss Gov. Mike Parson’s mask choice and Michael Flynn outrage
Wrong choice
I was disappointed to hear Missouri Gov. Mike Parson say he “chose not to” wear a mask while visiting sites throughout the state recently. (May 7, 8A, “Why is Missouri first state to resume concerts during COVID-19?”) I’m sure he receives frequent coronavirus testing and felt confident that a mask was not necessary. And he is correct: He does have the right to choose whether to wear a mask.
But wouldn’t it have been more useful for him to provide an example of how people can and should wear masks when interacting with others in public? As has often been explained, wearing a mask protects the people around you. It demonstrates that you understand the seriousness of the pandemic and are making an effort to prevent its spread.
Is wearing a mask comfortable? No. Is it convenient? No. Is it a good thing to do? Absolutely.

Flynn injustice
Attorney General Bill Barr and President Donald Trump, the leader of the GOP (Gang of Putin), continue to erode the rule of law. Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser, committed many crimes, but he has connections — so therefore the “Justice” Department under Barr gives him special treatment. (May 8, 7A, “Justice Department says it’s dropping Flynn’s criminal case”)
If you remain silent about this and do not condemn it in the strongest terms, I will assume you agree with this action and do not believe in the rule of law.
