Letters: KC readers discuss assisted living center workers and Chiefs’ great draft pick

Helpers at risk

My mother is in an assisted living home. She is 95 years old. The staff members are doing a great job of daily screening for fever, wearing masks and paying the utmost attention to hygiene. The workers go home after their shifts to their families, passing through outside areas.

In discussion with the home’s director, I’ve found there is no possibility for these dedicated workers to get tested. They could easily be asymptomatic spreaders. Why is the state not including them among the front-line workers who can get tests now? They are as important as police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

You only have to look at what happens when, despite best efforts, an outbreak occurs in a closed system like this. Sign me: worried daughter.

Great choice

I have followed Louisiana State University football since the time of Billy Cannon, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the most versatile back I have ever seen. (April 23, KansasCity.com, “Chiefs select LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in first round of 2020 NFL Draft”)

I have also followed the Chiefs since Johnny Robinson was playing in the 1960s. The team wisely used its pick for someone who I am certain will prove to be one of the most valuable players in Chiefs history.

Good luck in the coming season.
