Letters: KC readers discuss the importance of handwashing and banks still cashing in
For everyone’s sake
From all the horror that has come out of this pandemic, I had hoped there would be one positive effect. But, alas, my hopes have been dashed: People seem to have already forgotten the importance of handwashing and covering their coughs.
I had thought this would be an opportunity to teach kids the importance of washing hands, though many grow up without that instruction. But children are not the only ones guilty of this unsanitary behavior. I have been in multiple public restrooms where adults simply walked out without washing their hands.
And don’t even get me started on the lack of cough covering. You’d think that a virus spread by particles would motivate people to make this a habit, yet I am constantly reminding people to please, for the love of God, cover your coughs.
I saw a man leaving the grocery store the other day coughing up a storm but making no attempt to shield his mouth.
Please make an effort to stay sanitary. And maybe teach your kids to do it, too.

Turning screws
I went out Saturday night to pick up some carryout food. The restaurant had posted a sign asking customers to pay in cash if possible, because the business had been notified of an increase in credit card processing fees.
Talk about adding insult to injury. You’ve got to love those banks that were too big to fail in 2008 and are now profiting from the latest crisis in 2020.
