Letters: KC readers ask if coronavirus is a time to talk societal division or unity

No sides here

The author of a Thursday letter (10A) said the coronavirus bailout bill stalled because the Democrats added too many amendments to it. He was half right — but the Republicans did the same thing.

Everyone needs to understand that the House and Senate are political bodies. They represent differing views, and each lobbies for its side. This is normal.

I think we should commend the Senate for passing the bill in record time. I’m sure both sides got half of what they wanted, and this is how it should be. Stop blaming the other side for everything that has gone wrong.

In it together

I have lived in six different municipalities in the Kansas City area. COVID-19 knows no boundaries. Our decisions in the next several weeks will affect our future.

In a way, we have the whole world in our hands — with the soap we use. We have to rethink many things: how often we have close contact with others, hoarding, cleaning, how we communicate with friends, family and neighbors.

The power of one can have a profound effect on our community. Our community is humanity.

- Michael Casey, Liberty

Time to count?

I guess Easter time is a good time to meet our maker. Plus, the census will help us know the count of citizens who used to be alive.

I see the cup half full and the population not so full.

- Joan Harrison, Kansas City
