Letters to the editor: Moran, Roberts and Davids must demand accountability
No more wars
I am vehemently opposed to escalating our engagement in the Middle East. The U.S. got into the Iraq War based on false intelligence. Information has recently come to light that we have continued in Afghanistan even though multiple administrations have known it was a losing battle.
We do not need to solve the world’s issues by sacrificing American lives. Our current administration has abandoned treaties and courses of action that were working and has escalated the world to a much more dangerous place.
I urge Rep. Sharice Davids and Sens. Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts to refuse to authorize more military action without a clear plan that involves the approval of most NATO member nations, a specifically defined set of goals and a clear exit strategy.

An assassination
President Donald Trump finally did it, though the killing occurred at the Baghdad International Airport and not on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The assassination of top Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani is against international (and moral) law. World War I was started by just such an assassination.
The American people are tired of war, and Congress has not authorized such an action. This can by no means be construed as a defensive action. It is an act of war.
The only questions now are whether Congress has the courage to hold the president responsible for this murder, and whether the Iranian government has cooler heads in charge and has the restraint to protect the world from another tragic war.
