Letters: Readers discuss KC leaf pickup, Amtrak service and Deep South complaints

Leaving early

Kansas City has decided to reduce the number of fall pickups of leaves and brush to one. The only period this year for the Northland, Nov. 4-8, was too early. The trees had not lost any leaves at the times of collection.

This is unfair to everyone, especially the elderly, who have enough trouble keeping their properties looking nice. Please consider adding a second pickup in December, or making the single one later in the year.

This major reduction in city services during a period of good economic growth makes no sense. It’s unfair and adds to the degradation of the appearance of our city.

A rail pleasure

Over Thanksgiving, I had the great pleasure of riding round trip from Kansas City to St. Louis by train. In a time when good service seems to be dwindling in all aspects of our lives, Amtrak did not disappoint.

The employees were top notch. They couldn’t have been more helpful or kind. They managed the large number of passengers beautifully.

Thank you, Amtrak. Good job.

In the past?

I don’t know why Republicans keep arguing that the real reason Democrats impeached President Donald Trump is they are embittered by their loss in the 2016 presidential election. Many of these charges emanate from Deep South members of Congress who have never gotten over the fact that they lost the Civil War.
