Letters to the editor: A rolling roof at Truman Sports Complex, not downtown baseball
Get rolling, KC
The Royals have a new owner and manager. Talk of a downtown stadium will soon heat up. I say no to being a copycat, trying to catch up with other cities. Let’s say yes to Kansas City again showing the leadership and vision it demonstrated in building the two stadiums at the Truman Sports Complex.
Let’s reconsider a rolling roof concept there instead of a building new stadium downtown. The Chiefs would benefit from the roof and should pick up some of the costs.
The project could be enhanced with the development of a state-of-the-art public transit line from the stadium to downtown. It could travel through the Leeds district, connect with Van Brunt Boulevard and head north to 18th Street, then west to the heart of the city.
An added advantage would be a reduction of traffic on Interstate 70 during events and games (or a Super Bowl). On non-game days, sections of the sports complex’s parking lot could be used as a park-and-ride for residents of the eastern part of the area, further reducing traffic on the overcrowded highway.
The addition of a rolling roof to our beautiful stadiums, with modern public transportation, would provide Kansas City with a sports complex second to none. From a layman’s eye, it seems this could be accomplished with less investment of time and money than a downtown stadium would require.

Watch Edelman
The Chiefs will never understand that they need to cover the Patriots’ Julian Edelman. Coach Andy Reid needs to get enlightened about that.
