Letters: Readers discuss one success at honoring the troops, and one abject failure
Honor done right
The Veterans Day ceremony Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium was very impressive. American flags blew in the breeze, and a huge flag was unfurled on the field.
In a loud and clear voice, the announcer asked people in the crowd to stand and remove their hats for the national anthem. The gentleman who sang the anthem performed it as written.
Tears ran down my face with pride and appreciation. God bless America, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Arizona Cardinals.

And not so right
I am the grandson, son, nephew, cousin and uncle to veterans of almost every branch of our military. I am an Army veteran myself. So tell me: What are red-hat-wearing veterans across this country who support President Donald Trump feeling about our illustrious leader after his temper tantrum in Europe?
It is not as if he was asked to pick up a weapon, dig a trench or a foxhole, wallow in 10 inches of mud and whatever else spewed into the mix, then charge and face barbed wire, bullets, artillery and tanks to defend the world from oppressive evil.
All he was asked to do was lay (with help) a wreath in the rain to honor our countrymen who died on that foreign shore. He couldn’t even visit our own hallowed ground in his backyard in Arlington, Va. He apparently was worried about how he would look.
What a fiasco this public relations nightmare has been because “someone” didn’t tell him the reaction would be like this. And still — no acknowledgment.
Very bad, Mr. President. Very bad.
