Letters: Readers discuss Democrats’ obstruction, Senators’ struggle and toxic politics
Always against
I am grateful that it looks certain that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will be solidly confirmed to a place on the U.S. Supreme Court. It is unbelievable to me that our country is so divided we can’t work together on anything, generally speaking.
It appears the Democrats would not be happy no matter what the Republicans gave them. You give them an inch and they want a mile, and then two and then 10 — never satisfied.
I think the real issue is that the Democrats are afraid of losing their method to push their agenda on the American people: the court system. The Democrats’ big-issue items such as abortion, same-sex marriage and others couldn’t be done through political channels, so they used the courts.
The Democrats will do anything and everything within their power to stop whatever they don’t like.
Why not look at all the great things going on in our country and around the world? But no, they hate President Donald Trump and they will oppose him no matter what.

Big differential
When I hear that senators have “wrestled with the truth” about Brett Kananaugh, I think of all the women who have wrestled with an opponent much larger than themselves.
There is a huge difference between figuratively and literally.

Our responsibility
How can today any individual not reflect on the definition of truth?
How can one watch a president deride any human and accept that at just his flamboyant personality?
How can we watch a Senate hearing of two individuals sharing their own story and not feel their pain--both of their pains?
The political arena is toxic.
Politics is not a business; politics is about people.
When politics destroy the very people government is to protect, as defined by the U.S. Constitution, all of us fail.
American politics are supposed to be about preserving our freedoms and rights without destroying the same of fellow citizens.
Federal government is about national security and fluidity of states living in union together.
State government is about the well being of its own people within its geographical boundaries.
Local government is about living in community harmoniously for the good of those residing there.
Politicians need to remember these standards and that they are public servants.
Journalists have the job of reporting the truth about the candidates’ positions, ads and actions objectively.
Citizens vote to tell candidates that people matter, that truth and the Constitution matters.
Voters must change the toxic climate of politics.
