Letter of the Week: We’re not ready yet for a female president

I attend St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City. In my government class, we have been discussing the 2016 election.

There has been great controversy over former secretary of state, former U.S. senator and former first lady Hillary Clinton running for the Democratic presidential nomination. I have heard many people say that the nation needs to embrace change, and having a woman president would encourage that.

While this occurrence would stimulate many people to think about the power women can and should have, I personally do not believe our nation is prepared to handle having a female president.

A great deal of change has already struck the nation with legalizing certain drugs, legalizing gay marriage in some states and raising awareness of racism and feminism.

The people have gone through a lot over the past few years and need time to process the changes and take a rest.

Cecilia Zanone, 18, of Mission Hills is a senior at St. Teresa’s Academy. She dances for the Kansas City Ballet School and plans to attend Indiana University. Her parents are Julie and Stephen Zanone.
