The United Nations warned last week that 2015 was likely to be the warmest year on record. The ominous information was released ahead of more than 100 leaders of nations worldwide gathering in Paris for the United Nations climate summit starting Monday.

The U.N. World Meteorological Organization reports that 2011 to 2015 has been the warmest stretch of years on record. It has been marked by many extreme weather events, especially heatwaves.
