Gay marriage took a prominent turn in the news last week. The U.S. Supreme Court left intact several federal appeals court rulings that say bans on same-sex marriages are unconstitutional.

That opened the door to reconsideration in Kansas, and a judge in Johnson County accelerated the debate by opening the way for gay marriages there.
