All right, Kansas Citians. You can do this. Your challenge is to exceed expectations for voter turnout in Tuesday’s city election. Expectations are very, very low.

How low? Some officials think a good showing would be anything that exceeds the primary election turnout of 33,000. With an eligible electorate of 308,000, that’s an abysmal marker.

But we know Kansas City can do better. Look no further than the Major League Baseball All-Star Game ballot, where the voting fervor shown by Royals fans is sparking a nationwide controversy.

Salvador Perez has more than 7 million votes already.

Maybe we could bottle a bit of the enthusiasm exhibited by Royals fans and sprinkle it around Kansas City on Election Day. Let’s show Mayor Sly James and a slate of council candidates that we care about how the city operates, too.

Tuesday’s the day, people. At your designated polling place. Ready, set, vote.
