How excited are you about the return of baseball and the Royals? Tell us!
It’s still a few weeks yet until players report to spring training in Surprise, Ariz., but baseball gets a jump-start this week with the return of the Royals’ annual FanFest at Bartle Hall.
We’re excited, and we know you’re excited ...
So let’s have a little contest. Send your best short poem about or ode to the Royals — or even a quick video — to sports@kcstar.com. On Monday, we’ll pick a winner from your submissions and award a small prize or two.
Our first submission, below, comes to us from Dennis McCulloch, director of public and government relations for the University of Kansas Hospital.
He says, “It ain’t Shakespeare,” but we dig it, Dennis. Thanks for a great idea!
Oh yeah — FanFest runs Friday and Saturday, and you can find complete details about it here. Be sure to read KansasCity.com and The Kansas City Star throughout the weekend and beyond for complete coverage of FanFest and everything Royals.
We’ve even got a new app launching soon. More about that right here.
There’s no greater phrase
For hope in all sport
Than Pitchers and Catchers Report.
A phrase so compelling
There is no retort
For Pitchers and Catchers Report
On a cold winter’s day
Like a warm secure fort
Is Pitchers and Catchers Report
When the announcement is made
Hearts beat in support
Of Pitchers and Catchers Report
The genuine smile
That no one can thwart
When Pitchers and Catchers Report
A major holy day
True fans all exhort
Hail Pitchers and Catchers Report.
