The plummeting hopes of the Royals received another blow on Sunday afternoon when catcher Salvador Perez sat out because of a right groin strain. Perez injured himself when caught in a rundown on Friday night.

Manager Ned Yost hopes Perez will not miss much time. He was unsure how much time off Perez would require.

"I don’t know what I want to do," Yost said. "I’m trying to get through today, today. I’ll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. See how he feels. He’s a pretty integral part to our lineup."

Brett Hayes will replace Perez behind the plate. Perez was not available to reporters before Sunday’s game; he was in the trainer’s room receiving treatment.
