Eric Hosmer, Wade Davis win Royals’ team awards for April

The Royals’ player and pitcher for the month of April should come as no surprise.

First baseman Eric Hosmer is the Player of the Month after leading the team in average (.326) and on-base percentage (.368) in April. He also had three home runs, five doubles and a triple, as well as an 18-game hitting streak.

Relief pitcher Wade Davis is the team’s Pitcher of the Month. He had seven saves in April and threw 8  2/3 scoreless innings, while collecting seven saves. Opponents had two hits in 26 at-bats against him, and Davis had a 0.81 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched).

The Royals announced the winners on Tuesday.

Media members vote for the pitching award, while fans and media members vote for the player award. The Royals said fans can vote for the player of the month at Kansas Sampler and Rally House stores or at the Royals Majestic Team Store at Kauffman Stadium.
