A new app lets users to get instruction from Royals coaches

If you’re a young baseball player, perhaps you’ve wondered what tips a Royals coach would give you on improving your game.

Well, there’s an app for that.

It is called “Coached — Big League Baseball Training and Major Drills,” and it’s for iOS. The premise is simple.

First, upload three 6-second videos in one compilation. Then, choose a current Major League coach or former player that you want to view the video.

That coach will then respond with an analysis. In the description for the app, that is: “Video analysis is a voice narrated, frame-by-frame breakdown of a swing or pitch video, where an instructor is giving feedback on areas that need improvement.”

The developers of the app say the user can choose to send videos to Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland, hitting coach Dale Sveum, Braves hitting coach Kevin Seitzer and others.

The one-on-one video analysis price is per evaluation costs between $10-$60, the developers say, depending on the coach’s credentials.

The user can also pay for drills and lessons. Those cost $4.99, and there are four drills from Sveum, the developers said, while Eiland is expected to film a drill next week.

Robin Allemand is a co-creator of the app and he said that his time playing college baseball and overseas opened his eyes to a glaring need.

“If there is one thing I noticed during all my time in baseball is that really good, elite coaching is very hard to find … so we set out to connect the dots basically,” Allemand said.

Will Ellis is the other co-creator, and he said that Eiland has expressed an interest to responding up to three videos per day. Feedback usually comes within 72 hours.

“Basically when the demand gets really high, there will be a longer wait time,” Ellis said.

The app launched on April 1 and is available on iTunes.
