Foster Griffin tossed three perfect innings Saturday and Julio Pinto allowed two hits in six innings as Rookie Burlington beat Johnson City 3-1.
Griffin, the 28th overall pick in last month’s draft as compensation for the Royals’ loss of Ervin Santana, struck out two. In four starts, Griffin has allowed one run in 8 2/3 innings for a 1.04 ERA.
Pinto, 3-0, gave up two hits, walked three and struck out six. He has a 1.80 ERA.
“I thought Griffin threw great and Pinto was fantastic,” Royals manager Tommy Shields told MiLB.com. “He had the best breaking ball of the year tonight, pitched in front, did a great job.”

Second baseman D.J. Burt had three hits and center fielder Logan Moon had two.
Johnson City may have been a bit tired. Their bus driver apparently bailed out on them the night before.
**Tim Melville allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings as Class AA Northwest Arkansas lost 8-0 to Springfield. Melville gave up three in the first and the first three batters reached against him in the sixth inning and all of them scored. Jorge Bonifacio had two of the Naturals’ five hits.
**Blake Wood gave up a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning as Class A-Advanced Wilmington lost 2-1 to Salem. Blue Rocks starter Jonathan Dziedzic struck out seven in six innings. He walked two and gave up one run on seven hits. Bubba Starling and Terrance Gore each had two hits.
**Reliever Matt Tenuta gave up five runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings as Class A Lexington lost 8-2 to Hagerstown. Starter Pedro Fernandez, 0-6, allowed three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Kenny Diekroeger and Fred Ford both had two hits for the Legends.
**Zach Lovvorn allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings as Rookie-Advanced Idaho Falls lost 7-3 to Great Falls. Lovvorn, 2-2, walked three and struck out three. Robert Pehl had two hits.
**Class AAA Omaha’s game at Colorado Springs was suspended with the Storm Chasers leading 4-0 in the fourth inning. It will be finished on Aug. 8.
