With two days off before a three-game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins, a collection Royals planned a curious team bonding exercise on Wednesday night: Justin Bieber at the Sprint Center.

The concert ended with Eric Hosmer getting mobbed by a crowd outside the Sprint Center on late Wednesday night. You probably saw the videos going viral on Thursday afternoon. Alex Gordon joked that was planned, too.

“We sent Hos out first, out of the concert,” Gordon said, while working out at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday. “And then we kind of followed behind him and he took all the heat. He took one for the team.”

According to Gordon, the group included Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Wade Davis, among others. And yes, there were significant others, too.

“Not a huge fan,” Gordon said of Bieber, “but it was a team get-together and all the wives wanted to go. So I sucked it up and had fun.”

Gordon was asked if he knew many Bieber songs.

“Yeah,” Gordon quipped, “we had Jeremy Guthrie on our team.”

The Royals' 2015 World Series champions flag is flying next to their 1985 championship flag atop the Hall of Fame in Kauffman Stadium after a ceremony Sunday night before the season-opening game against the New York Mets.
