Casey Coleman rejoins Royals as Michael Mariot heads to minors

Casey Coleman rejoined the Royals on Wednesday morning, a few hours before the series finale against the Twins. He replaced Michael Mariot, who was optioned back to Class AAA Omaha.

Mariot gave up five runs in an ugly outing on Tuesday night.

Coleman, a 26-year-old right hander, posted a 1.93 ERA with Omaha. He contributed two scoreless appearances during his prior stint with the Royals.

“I need an arm,” manager Ned Yost said. “I was short on pitching.”
