The Royals announced Wednesday that 40 of their regular-season home games this year will be broadcast in Spanish on KYYS (1250 AM).

“Adding Spanish-language radio broadcasts allows us to enhance our outreach to the Latino fanbase,” Mike Bucek, the Royals’ vice president of marketing and business development, said in a news release. “The partnership with Reyes Media combined with losreales.com and @losreales on Twitter will provide coverage to very passionate Royals fans.”

The Royals play host to an annual Viva Los Reales game each summer. This year’s game will take place June 25 when the Royals play host to the Houston Astros.

The Royals said José Muñoz will be the play-by-play announcer for the Spanish game broadcasts, and that he has worked for 12 seasons calling games in Spanish for the Royals’ Class AAA affiliate in Omaha.

“This is a very important achievement for our organization and its fan base now that fans all over the world will be able to listen to these 40 games,” Royals catching coach Pedro Grifol said in a news release. “We are very happy and optimistic about our team, and we will continue to seek out new opportunities to celebrate with the Hispanic community.”
