Whit Merrifield has solid debut at Omaha, but Storm Chasers lose

In his first game since being promoted from Class AA, left fielder Whit Merrifield hit a two-run triple, but that was all the offense Class AAA Omaha managed Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Oklahoma City.

Starter Sugar Ray Marimon had a rough outing, allowing five runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Chris Dwyer allowed a hit and walked one in 1 2/3 innings. Buddy Baumann tossed three no-hit innings, but Blake Wood was pulled after getting just one out. He allowed a hit and walked two.

Ramon Troncoso gave up two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Brian Bocock had two hits, including a double.

Class AA Northwest Arkansas managed just five singles in a 3-0 loss at Arkansas. Sam Selman, 3-4, allowed three runs on three hits. He walked five and struck out three. Angel Baez pitched two innings of no-hit relief. He walked one and struck out three.

Class A-Advanced Wilmington was held to three singles in a 6-1 loss at Potomac. Sean Manaea, 2-5, gave up four runs (three earned) on just three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked four.

Left fielder Dominique Taylor’s two-out double scored DH Ramon Torres with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, and Class A Lexington won 6-5 at Augusta. Torres opened the 10th with a single. After two outs, Taylor came through with his big hit. Torres had three hits in the game, including two doubles. Taylor, third baseman Mauricio Ramos, catcher Frank Schwindel and center fielder Alfredo Escalera-Maldonado each had two hits. Matt Alvarez, 2-1, retired all six batters he faced, while Jose Miguel Rodriguez allowed one hit and walked a batter in three innings.
