Louis Coleman demoted by Royals, Wilking Rodriguez recalled for bullpen

After 17 appearances this season, many of them ineffective and in low-leverage situations, Louis Coleman found himself optioned to Class AAA Omaha on Monday afternoon.

The Royals promoted right-hander Wilking Rodriguez in his place. Rodriguez has given up two earned runs in 13 appearances for Omaha and Double A Northwest Arkansas this season.

Coleman’s numbers are ugly. His ERA is 6.27. His WHIP is 1.875. Manager Ned Yost could not use him in any critical scenario. So he is headed back to the minors.
