Johnny Giavotella’s two-run home run was part of Class AAA Omaha’s six-run first inning Saturday night as the Storm Chasers beat Round Rock 9-3 at home.
Omaha also got solo homers from Brett Eibner in the third inning and Melky Mesa in the fifth inning.
After Giavotella homered, the Storm Chasers also got a bases-loaded double from catcher Jesus Flores that made it 5-0. Flores then scored on a single by Mesa and Omaha was on its way.
Starter P.J. Walters allowed two runs on four hits in six innings and improved to 1-4. He struck out seven and walked just one.
First baseman Cody Stubbs finished a double short of a cycle and drove in five runs as Class A-Advanced Wilmington beat Frederick 8-4. Stubbs had a two-run triple in the second inning to open the scoring. The Keys got a run in the top of the third, but Stubbs hit a three-run homer in the bottom half as part of a four-run inning. The Blue Rocks went on to win for the sixth time in seven games and moved a game above .500 at 24-23. Catcher Zane Evans also had three hits, and he scored three times, while third baseman Hunter Dozier had two hits. Center fielder Bubba Starling had an RBI triple in the fourth inning and has a 13-game hitting streak.
Corpus Christi scored four in the eighth and another in the ninth against reliever Cody Fassold in a 7-4 win at Class AA Northwest Arkansas. The Naturals were down 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, but Mark Threlkeld opened the inning with a double and scored on a single by Edinson Rincon. Later in the inning, Rincon scored on a single by Ethan Chapman. Starter Tim Melville allowed two runs on three hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out three. Angel Baez pitched three shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. Orlando Calixte hit a solo homer.
Jake Junis allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings as Class A Lexington lost 5-1 to Savannah. Junis, 5-3, didn’t get a strikeout. Tripp Davis gave up an unearned run on two hits in three innings. Ramon Torres had two doubles for the Legends.
