Justin Maxwell will remain in the Royals organization.

The team designated him for assignment last week to make room on the roster for reliever Casey Coleman. But Maxwell, a 30-year-old outfielder, cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Class AAA Omaha.

Maxwell hit .138 with one extra-base hit in 29 at-bats. The team struggled to find playing time for him during the start of the season.
