The Royals open a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

With the Royals’ magic number at three, a Central Division crown cannot be clinched Tuesday night. The earliest the Royals could celebrate their first division title since 1985 would be Wednesday.

Any combination of three Royals’ victories and Minnesota Twins’ losses clinches the division. The Twins play host to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday.

The Royals entered the night with a 1  1/2 -game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays for the best record in the American League. The Blue Jays continue their home series against the Yankees on Tuesday.

At The K, Jeremy Guthrie makes his start since Aug. 18. He had been assigned to bullpen duty since then. He made five relief appearances out of the bullpen and posted a 4.70 ERA with a .236 opponents’ batting average.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast by Fox Sports Kansas City.
